Fedora & BLAG 6K!

12 09 2007

Okay, now all of these days I used Fedora, its really nice distro, but it seems that there is some problem with the ntfs-3g package provided with Fedora 7. Windows XP have gone very slow and frequently asks for a ‘chkdsk’ on booting.

Besides I got hold of another Fedora 6 based distro called BLAG 6K, yeah the BLAG 7K is still under development. It is very light and uses the same anaconda installer provided in Fedora. The installation took about 14 minutes on my PC. After installation I removed some exceptional application which I would have never used and the entire installation took about 1.4 GB of my disk space nice!

BLAG is very modest distro, nice and easy for any Linux newbie. It already comes bundled with some extra multimedia codecs and can play mp3, wav, avi, etc on the go!

Would use it for another week or two, let’s see what comes next.

In the mean time I tried my hands on OpenSuSE 10.3 Beta 3, OpenSuSE have always been my personal favorite. The artwork and colors are really cool, the distro is somewhat buggy for now, because you see itsstill in its development phase.

Fedora & NTFS!

3 09 2007

Ya! Its almost three days and I am using Fedora 7 and I almost forgot Windows XP. But here is a problem experienced by me when I switch over to XP again. XP have become very slow, I dunno what makes it that slow but I think the main culprit being the filesystem. The filetransfer is damn slow now, moreover some of the files written on the NTFS partiton from Fedora 7 are corrupt and I am not able to apen or delete them. I had to go for a “CHKDSK” and disk defragmentation, which enabled me to delete the files. I think the Fedora development team would notie the bug and may be able to release a patch soon.

Fedora and Ubuntu!

I was using Ubuntu up until now, with no sound yeah. Researching at www.ubuntuforums.org revealed that there is some kind of bug in nForce sound drivers and which have been reported ofcourse.

I the mean time I downloaded Fedora 7 for x64 processor, I installed it to my surprise everything was working perfectly. The sound, network and of course display too. Well I would say that display was not perfect with the “nv drivers” but still my display was working fine. I installed smart package manager from the Fedora Repos. Downloaded the nVidia Driver from the nVidia site installed the required software packages from the Fedora Repos using Smart and finally installed the nVidia drivers. Everything is working just fine!

First Post! Yeah!

Here, I would like to just get it straight. In this space I would right typically about, yeah you guessed it right Linux, Unix and all the *nixs available out there. The distro which I tried onto my PC.

I recently upgraded my PC to ASUS M2N-MX (AM2 Socket), AMD X2 3600+, 1 GB RAM, nVidia GeForce 6100 nForce 430 (on board graphics), 160 GB Segate SATA hardrive. Thats it!
